A little gaffers tape ... try it see if it works for you... if 1 sheet isn't OK, use two or three.. but move in a bit closer.. it cuts down a wee bit on flash distance..

Simple trick works well on most point and shoot cameras and softens the flash to give a softer look... place a layer or two of white tissue over the flash ...and most times..wella.. nice light..less eye blow out!
